Youth-Elderly Changi Board Walk
GEK POH VILLE CC AND NYAA GAHA JOINT YOUTH-ELDERLY INTEGRATION PROJECT AT CHANGI BOARD WALK
By Choo Pei Ling
In collaboration with Gek Poh Ville CC, GAHA organised a Youth-Elderly integration project on 20 May 2007 at the Changi Board Walk. The project took the form of a nature and heritage trail and involved 25 youths and 35 elderly aged 60-85. The 1.5 hour walk commenced at Changi Jetty (along Netheravon Road) and ended at the Kelong Trail. As part of the programme, the youth shared with the elders interesting facts and stories of the trail’s rich flora and cultural landmarks such as the Strangling Fig and old Changi Hospital. A series of games such as Bingo and Charade were played the seniors after the end of the walk. The incorporation of the different types of dialects in the games provided the youth a learning opportunity from the seniors. The program culminated with a group lunch. Friendship bands were also given to each senior as a token of friendship.
