Reading programmes for less privileged children
June 8th, 2010
GAHA is looking into collaborating with some partners on reading programmes for less privileged children in their primary school years.
Before further steps are taken, and to facilitate these, please email yingshya@nyaagaha.org by 22 June if you are interested in volunteering, and available to do so.
Commitment levels are anticipated to be on a once-a-week basis (though rostering arrangements can be made, if there is sufficient response, for volunteering on a bi-weekly basis), for 10 weeks at a time, during the school term. We are hoping to have the sessions take place on a Saturday morning or afternoon, for about 2 hours each time. Each 1-2 volunteers (again, depending on response) will be paired with 4-10 children, depending on the beneficiary GAHA is collaborating with.
Volunteers will need to go for a one-off, one-day training session with ReadwithUs volunteers, who will teach GAHA volunteers about reading to children. The training will include how to moderate / facilitate a training session, how to build a reading curriculum, how to pick appropriate books, how to chart the progress of the children, etc.
We look forward to hearing from you.
